Statistics from the Vietnam Navigation Bureau show that in the first eight months of 2021, the container throughput of various ports in Vietnam will achieve double-digit growth, an increase of 18% over the same period in 2020, reaching approximately 16.8 million TEUs.

Among them, export goods exceeded 5.4 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 16%, and imports of goods exceeded 5.5 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 21%.

In the first seven months of this year, some of the ports with large container throughput include Quang Nam Province (increased by more than 115%), My Tho (increased by 41%), Haiphong (increased by more than 17%) and Ho Chi Minh City (increased by nearly 16%).

At the same time, the ports that saw a significant drop in container throughput included Quang Ninh (down 98%), Da Nang (down 38%) and Can Tho (down 23%).

In the first eight months of this year, the cargo throughput of various ports in Vietnam reached 480 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4%. This increase is lower than in previous months because, in accordance with the Prime Minister’s No. 16/CT-TTg instruction, some southern ports with large cargo throughput have implemented social distancing measures to prevent and control the new crown pneumonia epidemic.
