Industrial production in April was estimated to increase by 2% over the previous month and by 9.4% over the same period last year due to the control of the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses being more proactive in terms of labor and production plans, overcoming difficulties to recover and expand production. Generally, in the first four months of 2022, the industrial index of production increased by 7.5% over the same period last year.

The index of industrial production (IIP) of April 2022 was estimated to increase by 2% over the previous last month[3] and increased by 9.4% over the same period last year. Of which, compared to the same period last year, the manufacturing rose by 11.3% (higher than the growth rate of 5.8% and 9.6% of the same period in 2018 and 2019, the years without the Covid-19 epidemic); electricity production and distribution went up by 2.8%; the mining and quarrying surged by 2.3%; water supply, waste and wastewater management, and treatment peaked up 0.4%.

Overall, in the first 4 months of 2021, the IIP was estimated to increase by 7.5% over the same period last year (the same period in 2021 was 9.5%). Of which, the manufacturing rose by 8.3% (the same period last year up 12.1%), contributing 6.5 percentage points to the general growth; electricity production and distribution went up by 6.6%, contributing 0.6 percentage points; the mining and quarrying peaked up by 2.6%, contributing 0.4 percentage point; water supply, waste and wastewater management, and treatment peaked up by 1.1%, contributing 0.02 percentage points to the general growth rate.

The index of production in the first 4 months of 2022 belonging to 2-digit industrial activities significantly increased compared to the same period in 2019 (the years without the Covid-19 epidemic): Manufacture of wearing apparel (20.1%) (the same period in 2019 up 7.9%); Manufacture of electrical equipment (19.1%) (the same period in 2019 up 9.2%); Manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c (13.2%) (the same period in 2019 up 10.9%); Manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, Manufacture of leather and related products (both 12.8%) (the same period in 2019 up 3.9% and 8.3% respectively); Manufacture of pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemical and botanical products (11.1%) (%) (the same period in 2019 up 3.4%); Printing and reproduction of recorded media (10.6%) (the same period in 2019 up 13.1%); Manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (9.8%) (the same period in 2019 up 2.4%); Manufacture of paper and paper products (9.7%) (the same period in 2019 up 8.8%). On the opposite side, the IIP of some industries decreased: Manufacture of rubber and plastics products (-12.9%); Repair and installation of machinery and equipment (-11.5%); Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-8.3%); Other mining and quarrying (stone, sand, and clay) (-4%); Sewerage and sewer treatment activities (-3.3%); Extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas (-1.7%).

Some major industrial products in the first 4 months of 2022 increased sharply over the same period last year: Monosodium glutamate and Phone accessories (both 21.5%); Steel bars and corners (15.2%); Textile fabric from natural yarn (13.5%); Urea fertilizer (13.2%); Aluminium (12.7%); Clothes (12.3%); Automobile (12%); Processed fishery products (11.3%); Fresh milk (9.7%); Laminated steel (9.6%); Coal (pure) (9.3%). In the opposite side, a number of products decreased compared to the same period last year: Television (-18.9%); Mobile phone (-9.9%); Petroleum (-9.7%); Textile fabric from polyester or artificial yarn (-9.1%); Aquatic feed (-8.4%); Crude steel, iron (-5.8%); Chemical paint (-2.6%); Natural gas (in the form of air) (-2.1%); Extracted crude oil (-1.1%).

The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of 01/4/2022 was up 1.3% over the same period last month and rose by 3.9% over the same period last year. Of which the number of working employees in the state-owned enterprise sector was up 0.2% and decreased by 3.9%; non-state enterprises rose by 1.1% and declined by 2.4%; enterprises of foreign direct investment peaked by 1.5% and surged by 5.3%. By industry, the number of employees working in mining and quarrying was up 0.3% over the same period last month and went down by 1.8% over the same period last year; manufacturing was up 1.4% and increased by 4.3%; the production and distribution of electricity kept unchanged and peaked up by 0.7%; the water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities were constant and rosed by 1.8%.
